Meet Chris Matthews: flip-flopper to the bone and the personification of 'go with the flow'
Chris Matthews in his final column in the San Francisco Chronicle entitled 'Hail and farewell' on sunday, September 1, 2002:
So I'll say it: I hate this war that's coming in Iraq. I don't think we'll be proud of it. Oppose this war because it will create a millennium of hatred and the suicidal terrorism that comes with it. You talk about Bush trying to avenge his father. What about the tens of millions of Arab sons who will want to finish a fight we start next spring in Baghdad?
Chris Matthews on Hardball on the 1th of May 2003, right after the 'Mission Accomplished':
We're proud of our president. Americans love having a guy as president, a guy who has a little swagger, who's physical....Women like a guy who's president. Check it out. The women like this war. I think we like having a hero as our president.
Chris Matthews on Hardball the 16th of December, 2005:
Well, it's probably the greatest gamble since Roosevelt backed Britain before World War II. The president deserves credit, if this gamble comes through -- and it's not clear yet. If his gamble that he can create a democracy in the middle of the Arab world and he does it, he belongs on Mount Rushmore.
